Daron Wilson is the interim director of Visit Mississippi, the tourism office of Mississippi Development Authority. Under his leadership, Visit Mississippi promotes the state as a premier travel destination and film location with significant cultural, heritage, history, natural resources and recreational offerings through marketing and promotional efforts.
Prior to his appointment, Wilson served as the chief operating officer of MDA’s Disaster Recovery Division, joining the agency in 2008. In that role, he helped oversee more than $5.4 billion in Hurricane Katrina disaster recovery funds. Wilson also had oversight of the state-owned ports that include the Port of Gulfport and Yellow Creek Port. He and his team were awarded the Governor’s Excellence in Government Award in 2014, for significant achievements in helping with the state’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
Wilson has more than 30 years of experience in operational and business management with an emphasis on program and project management.
He uses his passion for the blues and playing guitar in his home studio as one of his favorite creative outlets. Wilson and his wife Jan have two children and one grandchild.
