All Y’all are Welcome Concert

May 22, 2023 – Aztec Theatre

Last year’s concert featured up-town Memphis funk, rockabilly, bluegrass and classic country with five-time GRAMMY-award winning Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives. Join us as we continue to celebrate music as the universal language with two fabulous acts highlighting two more genres – jazz and country rock.

First up — 22-year-old Bryce Leatherwood, the 2022 winner of “The Voice.” Leatherwood’s win marks the ninth win for coach Blake Shelton. Leatherwood, who grew up in Georgia, is working on his first album that he hopes will, “impact people with both upbeat songs and fun songs but also slow and more somber songs,” he explained. He also wants, “to go back to the traditional roots of country, but also include some modern influences as well. I don’t want to be stuck in the mud with just my traditional country lane. I want to incorporate great sounds like Southern rock, great sounds of traditional country, and great sounds of modern country.”After a short 15-minute intermission to refresh your drink, we will welcome our second act to the stage —  Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers are a beloved institution – a must-see for every New Orleans visitor and a favorite of local critics and music lovers. Ruffins has helped spur the formation of new brass bands in his 20s and has since influenced the city’s musical direction in the 21st century. He has undoubtedly impacted dozens of young musicians and bands who are essentially playing the same music using retro microphones, dressing in dandy suits and performing the timeless tunes that Ruffins pioneered with his solo act. Ruffins has not been content to remain musically static. His live show has included elements of hip-hop since his days with Rebirth. He began rapping on albums long before it was commonplace for jazz musicians to have hip-hop influences. With over fifteen albums to his credit, including live albums capturing his inimitable stage presence, this New Orleans trumpeter shows no signs of slowing down.

We can’t wait to welcome our international guests and share this next generation of “3 Chords and the Truth.”
