Glenda Allred has built a distinguished career serving the people of Alabama through leadership, strategic communications, and public service. Appointed as Director of the Alabama Tourism Department, she brings more than three decades of experience spanning both the private and public sectors. Before joining state government in 2011, Allred spent 19 years in the private sector, managing the daily operations of an advertising agency before overseeing media relations, shareholder communications, and advertising for one of Alabama’s largest bank holding companies. Her background in marketing, communications, and business operations laid the foundation for a career dedicated to promoting Alabama and serving its citizens.
Since joining state service, Allred has held several key leadership positions, most notably as Deputy State Treasurer, where she served as the Treasurer’s liaison to the media, legislators, boards, and stakeholder organizations while managing the legislative process for the Treasury. She also led the marketing and promotion of CollegeCounts, Alabama’s 529 college savings program, and developed the CollegeCounts Scholarship Program, which has awarded more than $13.8 million in scholarships to Alabama students since 2013. As Deputy Finance Director, Allred played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic by staffing Governor Kay Ivey’s Executive Committee responsible for reopening Alabama’s economy, serving as the Governor’s liaison to the Alabama Department of Public Health to help facilitate the statewide COVID-19 vaccination program, and assisting with healthcare-related CARES Act funding requests.
Beyond her professional career, Allred has remained committed to strengthening communities across Alabama through civic leadership. She has served on the Huntingdon College Board of Trustees since 2010 and joined the Central Alabama Community Foundation Board of Directors in 2025. As Director of the Alabama Tourism Department, Allred combines her extensive experience in communications, marketing, government affairs, and public service with a passion for Alabama’s people and communities. She is committed to building upon the Department’s strong foundation by working alongside tourism partners across the state to share Alabama’s unique stories, rich heritage, and welcoming hospitality with visitors from around the world.
