Celebrate Fall with Georgia’s Best Harvest

Fausett Farms Sunflowers Dawsonville, GA | Photo Credit: @jfrink1

Call us biased, but we think fall is the best season in Georgia. During this time of year, Georgia shows off a bit with blue skies, cooler temperatures, and a cornucopia of seasonal crops, including apples, pumpkins, flowers, and more. This fall, take your family for a drive to North Georgia for breathtaking views, an early glimpse at autumn’s beautiful colors, and best of all, a bounty of orchards, farms, and markets offering harvest fun.

B.J. Reece Orchards, Ellijay

Located in the Apple Capital of Georgia, B. J. Reece Orchards offers U-Pick apples late-August through Halloween. U-Pick and a petting farm are offered during the week, and on weekends, there’s extended fun for the whole family with ziplining, cow milking, corn maze, wagon rides, and much more. If you aren’t sure which kind of apple is your favorite, visit the apple house to taste them all, and watch them make fried apple pies while you decide.

Mercier Orchards, Blue Ridge

Mercier Orchards is a fourth-generation family-owned and -operated apple orchard, celebrating more than 70 years of fruitful harvest. The most popular apple varieties grown are Pink Lady, Fuji, Mutsu, and Cameos — some sweet, some tart, and some a combination of both. Experience a tasty combination of U-Pick apple events, bakery (the apple cider donuts are a must), deli, market store, farm winery, and don’t miss their Georgia Grown Hard Cider.

Jaemor Farms, Alto

Mid-September through early November, Jaemor Farms offers a whole farm experience centered around their annual corn maze. Fall family fun includes hay rides, farm slides, a petting zoo, a pumpkin train, as well as a mini-maze for those who want a quicker visit. October weekends include U-Pick flowers while in bloom. And, they’ve planted more than 80 acres of pumpkins, so you can pluck your own for the family’s jack-o-lantern.

Fausett Farms Sunflowers, Dawsonville

A family-owned farm since 1858, this former poultry enterprise now dedicates its 30+ acres to more than 900,000 sunflowers. Fausett Farms Sunflowers is a perfect stop along your North Georgia fall adventures. It opens in September, and is located south of Burt’s Farm and Amicalola Falls. Entry fee is $5 per person – kids under five are free – and the farm makes for a stunning setting for your family photos, though there is an additional fee of $35 for professional photographers.
