How to Have a Farm Fresh Fall in Almost Heaven

Photo Credit: West Virginia Tourism Office

Fall is a magical time in the Mountain State. As the leaves begin to change and the air becomes crisp, autumn activities begin on farms across Almost Heaven. With rolling farmlands and fertile fields, West Virginia is home to the highest percentage of family-owned farms in the United States. Get ready to celebrate the harvest and add farm-to-table flavor with food and fun from these farms and markets:

Orr’s Farm Market

Orr’s Farm Market(link is external) in Martinsburg has all your fall favorites covered. The market has turkeys available for Thanksgiving dinner orders, as well as pies in a variety of flavors— try pumpkin, pecan and apple for classic flavors. If you want to prepare your own desserts, pick up apples from Orr’s to make a delicious pie or tarte. Orr’s also has fall decorations to make the season even more festive.

Gritt’s Farm

Bring the whole family to Gritt’s Farm(link is external) in Buffalo for a day full of fall activities. Enjoy one of their intricate corn mazes or let the kids pick their own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch! Gritt’s also offers hayrides, apple sling shots and much more.

Morgantown Farmers’ Market

Morgantown Farmers’ Market(link is external) is a perfect stop for all your fall needs. With an excellent variety of local meats, cheeses and produce, the market is a great stop when shopping for your fall feast. The market is home to basics like eggs, bread and potatoes but also has seasonal specialties and desserts. While you’re there, stop by one of the craft vendors for early Christmas gifts.

Capitol Market

Capitol Market(link is external) in Charleston is home to all things in-season. Pick up your autumn essentials at Capitol Market, including produce and fall decorations. Get Holl’s Chocolate(link is external) for a sweet treat and stop by The Purple Onion for any fruits or vegetables you might need. While you’re there stop by the in-house wine and cheese shop, for perfect pairings with your farm-to-table meal.

Taylor’s Farm Market

Taylor’s Farm Market(link is external) in Inwood has plenty of local goods to make your farm-to-table dinner a success. Pick up produce like squash, apples and corn from Taylor’s. The market also has fresh-baked pies and caramel apples for easy, fun desserts. Pair your meal with wine or cider from Taylor’s selection of local craft beverages. While you’re there, pick up seasonal decorations and housewares.
