Plan a Couple’s Getaway This Fall in Missouri
Cooler temperatures and colorful foliage make fall a perfect time to leave your routine behind and take a romantic trip for two. Here are four places that provide a perfect setting for a couple’s getaway in Missouri.
Chaumette Vineyards & Winery(link is external)
Located near Ste. Genevieve, Chaumette Vineyards & Winery is a premier Midwest winery destination. Relax in an elegant villa with magnificent views of the rolling countryside. Sample award-winning wines and fine farm-to-fork dining with a Cajun-Creole-Southwest flair.
If you’re a history lover, you’ll want to explore Ste. Genevieve – Missouri’s oldest town, established by French explorers in the 1700s. Tour historic sites and the rare French post-in-ground houses – there are only five left standing in the United States, and three of them are located in this Mississippi River town. A new National Historical Park is currently being established in the town to preserve the French history and architecture.
Big Cedar Lodge(link is external)
Big Cedar Lodge, located near Branson, is a premier wilderness resort in the Missouri Ozarks. Five golf courses, a marina offering boat rentals and miles of hiking trails set the stage for plenty of opportunity for outdoor adventure. But Big Cedar has a romantic side, too. Lodging options range from rustic log cabins with fireplaces and glamping tents with outdoor soaking tubs to luxurious rooms in the grand lodge – all with scenic views of Table Rock Lake.
Enjoy dinner at one of several restaurants at the resort. A world-class spa features natural stone floors, hand-hewn timber ceilings, stained glass accents and chandeliers. A grand double staircase leads to 11 treatment rooms, each with its own fireplace.
If you’re seeking solitude, try a tree house at The Cottage near Hermann. Choose from the Sunrise Tree House, the Sunset Tree House or the wheelchair-friendly Moonlight Tree House (it’s accessible via a wooden bridge from the parking area and has no stairs.) The historic town of Hermann, located on the Missouri River, also offers a number of bed and breakfast inns.
Sample the wine at the area’s many wineries, including awarding-winning Stone Hill Winery, established in 1847. The winery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy authentic German fare and other specialties at more than a dozen restaurants in Hermann.
The Elms Hotel and Spa(link is external)
Guests have been visiting The Elms Hotel & Spa in Excelsior Springs for more than 125 years. Founded in 1888, the town attracted visitors seeking the healing powers of the mineral water emerging from the natural springs nearby.
The hotel and spa offers guest rooms and suites, park-like grounds, a restaurant, lounge and spa – a 25,000-square-foot complex of soaking tubs, pools and treatment facilities. Immerse yourself in a modern take on traditional spa services such as hydrotherapy, massages, facials, salon services, manicures and pedicures. Explore the town’s shops, restaurants and the historic Hall of Waters.
