Plan Your Fall Escape to the Big Easy!
If you ask anyone what the best time is to visit New Orleans, many will tell you to take a trip in the Fall. This time of the year, the weather is cooling and perfect for outdoor excursions and sightseeing.
At the Audubon Park(link is external), take a stroll and enjoy the grand oak trees, beautiful lagoons, and lush greenery. The park is an ideal spot to relax with a picnic or get in some exercise. Named after artist and naturalist John James Audubon, who lived in New Orleans starting in 1821, the park features a paved loop for joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers, along with several covered pavilions for shaded gatherings with friends or family. Audubon Park is located just minutes from downtown New Orleans on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line. Within the Audubon Park, you’ll also find the Audubon Trail Golf Course and the Audubon Zoo.
The Audubon Zoo(link is external) is a great spot to take the kiddos on an adventure to escape from the (virtual) classroom. At the Zoo, you’ll find a wide variety of exotic animals from around the world. Explore remarkable natural habitats, such as the award-winning Louisiana Swamp and Jaguar Jungle. Don’t miss the daily animal presentations, chats and feeds. A must-see is the unique white alligators. The Audubon Zoo is consistently one of the country’s top-ranked zoos, voted as one of the top ten zoos in the country in the USA Today “10Best” reader poll.
If you’re an art lover, check out The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden(link is external) at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The scenic Garden occupies approximately eleven acres in City Park adjacent to the museum, set within a landscape with an abundance of native Louisiana pines, magnolias and live oaks surrounding two lagoons. Conceived in 2003, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden doubled in size in 2019 and has grown from its inception to include more than 90 fascinating sculptures by artists from around the world.
One of New Orleans’ newest attractions, JAMNOLA(link is external), highlights over 20 local artists in this Crescent City-themed cultural experience in the Marigny. JAM, which stands for Joy through Art & Music, is New Orleans’ first experiential pop-up and takes spectators of all ages on a whimsical experience through the cultural gems that make the Crescent City so special. The immersive 12-room exhibit celebrates the iconic art, music, food and theatrics of the city through vibrant, colorful displays.
