Take a Winter Louisiana Getaway in the Greater New Orleans Area
The Greater New Orleans area is comprised of New Orleans, of course, and what we call the “Louisiana Northshore” – also known as St. Tammany Parish. It’s the perfect place for a winter trip, whether you’re looking for grand holiday celebrations or a low-key getaway.
New Orleans is offering the “Holidays New Orleans Style” program, which includes Papa Noel Hotel rates, Reveillon Dinners, shopping deals and more. The Roosevelt(link is external), a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, has many offerings this winter. As soon as you walk through the doors, the Roosevelt is dripping with those iconic twinkling lights that are the perfect backdrop for a photo-op. Make plans for the elegant Thanksgiving and Christmas Brunches paired with champagne and music, or check out their Reveillon Menu for a unique Louisiana approach to your holiday dining experience. But the main event is their Teddy Bear Tea(link is external) – a tradition running for nearly 100 years! Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance along with a presentation of delicious holiday food, specialty teas and tasty pastries, as well as sparkling wine and mimosas for the adults. Enjoy the ultimate Teddy Bear Tea experience at the Golden Table with enhanced food and champagne, premier seating in the center up front by the stage, and keepsakes for all. Santa and his holiday characters will visit with the table and sign holiday books for the children.
While in New Orleans, you can’t miss the Celebration in the Oaks in City Park(link is external). This year is the 34th anniversary of the famous holiday event, and it’s a driving tour! City Park’s famous oaks are enveloped in over a million sparkling lights, and breathtaking light displays are scattered throughout the 2.25 mile driving tour of the Park. With more than 165,000 visitors pouring into the Park to see the magical winter spectacle in previous years, you know it’s a must-see display. This year, you can experience it yourself through the comfort of your own vehicle on the special driving tour.
Less than an hour away, Covington is home to the renovated Southern Hotel(link is external), a historic boutique hotel in the heart of downtown with its own established restaurant – The Gloriette, which features local and French-inspired dishes surrounded by stunning murals. Every year, downtown Covington lights up for the holidays, creating a picturesque scene for a stroll along the quaint shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Warm up with a cocktail from Del Porto Ristorante or a coffee and a treat at St. John’s coffeehouse – a historic coffeehouse named after the city’s founder, John Wharton Collin. Get some last-minute holiday shopping done for your loved ones (or yourself) at Columbia Street Mercantile, Copper Rooster Antiques and Gifts or the Covington Farmers Market. Or catch a tune with your dinner at Columbia St. Rock-N-Blues.
